I have been running several Nagios installations for various companies. I am now at the point where I need to monitor a single windows host from the Companies home office. I can ssh into the remote office server, but have no nsclient access. Here is the command (ip address obscured):
[root@nagios libexec]# ./check_nt -H 11.22.33.44 -p 12489 -d SHOWALL -v SERVICESTATE -l Spooler
could not fetch information from server
I am able to monitor other local windows machines successfully. NSClient configuration (nsc.ini) was copied from a production machine. I am not able to install NRPE on the Nagios box (may require reinstallation).

The following ports are open on both ends of the connection: 22, 161, 162, 3389, 5666, 12489

I can use MS remote desktop going both ways. I can ping both ways. I can SSH both ways. I just cannot get check_nt to work from nagios over the internet to windows 2003 server.

I am new to Nagios, so please bare with me. I have installed the client just as described and configured Nagios just as explained. The problem that I am having is that on the UI my server is giving me this error "(Return code of 127 is out of bounds - plugin may be missing)" I ran netstat on the client side and noticed that port 12489 is being monitored. I verified that the Nagios server can telnet into that port on the client. What am I missing?

@Webby,

What kind of warnings are you getting?

@Aditya,

I will write a separate article about how to call user defined plugins in Nagios and NSClient++. I've added this to my to-do list. Thanks for your suggestion.

@Daniel,

Thanks for tips. Yes, I agree. Most of the times, making sure the appropriate ports are open would eliminate lot of headaches down the road.

After completing the install and following the article. The only issue I had was the Status Information showed --CRITICAL - Socket timeout after 10 seconds--. After reading a little further, I realised that I had done everything explained on this article except for open the ports on the firewall. I see that a few people have had this issue, therefore I have put this on to assist. Hope this helps.

Hi Ramesh
                  First of all, thank you very much for the guidelines of the installation. It is really very handy and nicely done. Currently I am working on nagios client and server for monitoring my database. Can you please guide me how to incorporate user defined plugins in nagios server and in NSClient++. It would be really helpful.
Thank you very much in advance.

I need some help with my windows.cfg file. I can set 1 server up but on the services it gives me all warnings. Here is my windows.cfg file:
